Staying lovers, not just parents.

Rester amants et ne pas être seulement parents.

How can you preserve a couple’s territory in the family home? That is the question we asked Soazig Castelnérac

You’ve read it a hundred times, the arrival of a child changes everything : routines, priorities, nights. But also the organisation of the home. Little by little, baby’s things find their place, the older child’s toys settle into the living room, and without us even noticing, the space becomes the children’s to such an extent that the couple sometimes no longer knows where to settle.

Family life permanently transforms the organisation of a home. Organisationally, routines evolve and priorities shift. Functionally too: toys move into the living room, spaces change purpose, the parents’ bed becomes the children’s… Little by little, without always realising it, the environment becomes above all the children’s. Until the couple no longer really knows where to settle, or sometimes even where to find each other again.

At Amour Toujours, we deeply believe in this simple, essential truth: a couple is the foundation of a family. And to keep existing, it needs two fundamental things: time and an environment that makes it possible.

Staying lovers, not just parents

When we become parents, time for two tends, if we are not careful, to become scarce. Not for lack of love, but because our energy is elsewhere, days are intense and evenings too short. Yet finding time for each other is neither a luxury nor a whim: it is a necessity.

Making time for your relationship means nurturing your bond, maintaining a daily connection. For us, for our relationship, but also to offer our children a secure, loving environment.

These moments for two, whether they last twenty minutes or a whole evening, help us remain lovers and not see ourselves solely as parents. Our parenthood was built on a love story, and that story deserves to be nurtured.

The key role of space in a couple’s life

Surprisingly, finding time for each other does not depend solely on our diaries. Our environment plays a key role in our emotional availability.

So, a living room overflowing with toys, a visually cluttered space, permanent mess can unconsciously prevent a couple from settling down, breathing and finding each other again. Not because children take up too much space, but because their world sometimes no longer has any boundaries. It can therefore be helpful to set a framework and define everyone’s space.

Finding the balance between family space and adult space

While children need a space to play, explore and express themselves, parents need a place that remains welcoming, soothing and intimate.  There are little tips for defining and preserving everyone’s own space. Charlotte Ribeyron explored the subject after the birth of her first child. Today, through the Mezamé brand, she offers a whole range of beautiful play mats and storage solutions. Everything has been designed to give children a real play space while blending harmoniously into the home. Children have a place at the heart of the home, without taking over the living space. And because every item is lovely, it is beauty that fills the room, not mess!

A setting made for reconnecting

Once the children are in bed, the setting plays a decisive role.
A calm, warm and tidy environment encourages emotional availability and invites greater connection. The living room then becomes a space for conversation, where attention can be fully focused on the relationship. It is in these moments, away from the demands of everyday life, that lovers can find each other again.

It is precisely to encourage these moments for two that Soazig Castelnérac created the Amour Toujours journals. Designed as guided dates, they offer a structured framework for nurturing dialogue, deepening listening and preserving the couple’s place at the heart of family life. These journals offer 12 one-to-one dates - one per month - as an opportunity to talk about each person’s needs, desires, fears and plans. More than simple journals, they were designed as a tool for asking yourselves questions, opening up new conversations and sharing your stories. So you never lose the thread.

So, protecting your relationship when you become parents does not necessarily require huge changes. It starts with simple, conscious choices: sharing time together without guilt, accepting that a couple also needs a framework to exist, and preserving your environment with care.

A home can be full of life, laughter and play, while still being a place where a couple feels at home. Protecting your relationship and the space it needs to exist does not mean doing less for your children. It means offering them a solid, secure and loving foundation. Because let’s not forget that at the heart of every family, there is first and foremost a love story.
