The life mat

What is a life mat?

Far more than a simple play mat, our life mat is designed to grow with your child and your family. Thanks to its modularity and its activity covers, it adapts to every stage of life: sensory play, motor development, games, quiet time, spare bed for sleepovers… In short, useful from 0 to 99! Because at the end of the day, comfort has no age limit.

Designed with the help of early childhood professionals (psychomotor therapists, occupational therapists…), it is perfectly suited to newborns' needs:

Large, flat and edge-free for maximum freedom of movement

Specially selected foam to encourage motor development safely

Also designed by a mum, it is adaptable, portable and practical, ideal for everyday family life.

What age is the life mat designed for?

Honestly? From birth to 99 years old!

Far more than a simple play mat, our life mat is designed to grow with your child and your family. Thanks to its modularity and its activity covers, it adapts to every stage of life: sensory play, motor development, games, quiet time, spare bed for sleepovers… Because at the end of the day, comfort has no age limit!

What does a life mat consist of?

Our life mat is made up of:

✔️ 2 foam pieces (or 3 for the king-size)

✔️ A non-removable waterproof mattress protector to protect the foam

✔️ A printed cover fitted with 2 zips to insert each foam piece + an extension cover (for the king-size version)

📦 Every life mat (including king-size) comes with a tote bag for easy carrying.

Can you tell me more about the foam in the life mat?

We selected our foam with the help of early childhood professionals to make sure it meets babies' motor development needs:

Thickness: 2.5 cm

Firm: so baby can feel the support beneath them

Cushioned: to absorb any bumps

Optimal density: built to last (and just as comfortable for us parents 😉)

Oeko-Tex and CertiPur certified: because you're entrusting us with your most precious little one

What is the difference between your fabric options?

To help you choose, here's a quick guide to textures:

Cotton: a "shirt fabric feel" for percale weaves and a slightly textured finish for seersucker vichy

Sweat: a "soft sweatshirt feel"

Cotton / Linen: a "lightly textured cotton-linen blend feel"

Waterproof: a "leather-like feel"

What is the difference between a standard life mat and a king-size?

The standard life mat consists of 2 foam pieces measuring 60x120 cm, assembled inside a cover with a zip on each side. Final size: 120x120 cm.

The king-size life mat includes a standard mat + a 60x120 cm extension, secured with 3 press studs on the underside of the cover.

📌 Good to know:

✔️ The extension is sold separately for a later purchase.

✔️ If a print is running low on stock, we recommend getting it before the collection ends (announcements are made on our social media).

How do I set up my life mat?

📦 Waterproof life mat

Great news! Waterproof life mats are sent already covered. All you need to do is take it out of its tote bag and EN-JOY! ✨

📦 Cotton / sweat / cotton-linen mat

1️⃣ Wash the covers as soon as you receive them so they fit snugly:

Temperature: 30°C

Air dry

✔️ Cotton / cotton-linenAround half a day

✔️ SweatUp to a full day max

🧵 Good to know about cotton-linen mats and covers: Cotton-linen is a fabric that relaxes slightly with use — and that's part of its charm! That's why our covers are intentionally cut snugly after washing, to keep them looking impeccable over time.

💡 A little fitting tip: Once the cover is back on, flip the mat over and press down in a few places to distribute the fabric evenly. After a couple of toddler rolls (tested and approved), everything falls perfectly into place!

2️⃣ Insert each foam piece into the printed cover

📌 A little tip for a perfect finish:

The mattress protectors sewn onto the foam pieces are slightly larger to make it easier to insert by hand. We've reduced this excess as much as possible, but there may still be a tiny bit of give.

To avoid visible creases on your covered mat, follow this tip:

✔️ Hold each foam piece by the short side where the mattress protector is closed.

✔️ Shake it firmly in the air, just like putting a duvet into its cover.

✔️ The excess will gather to one side, and once it's slipped into the zip cover, it will be completely invisible!

Can you explain the flap cover system (activity, fluffy, etc.)?

Our flap covers are designed with a flap system on the reverse so they can be placed in one simple move over the life mat, like slipping on a book cover. Once the activity is done, just remove it to get your original mat back.

We offer different flap covers depending on:

✔️ Children's age / interests with our activity covers:

Sensory (0–15 months)

Wonderland, circuit (from 2 years)

In the city, colouring (3–4 years)

✔️ Use with our covers:

Waterproof (ideal for messy activities)

Moumoute (ultra-soft version for quiet time)

📌 The flap cover is designed for the standard size, but the extension can be added by securing the central press stud to extend the play area.

⚠️ Exception: the Moumoute cover is available in both standard and king-size.

Can I change my mat cover?

Yes, of course! All our covers are sold separately, so you can swap covers as easily as changing your top – in two quick zip moves!

Can my mat be taken on a plane?

📦 Mat dimensions when packed:

Standard: 64x64x13 cm

King-size: 64x64x18 cm

✈️ You have several options for travelling with it:

In the hold protected in its original plastic delivery bag or a baby travel bag

In some suitcases or vacuum compression bags to save space

Can I use my mat outdoors?

Yes! Our mat is made to go anywhere.

✔️ Mats in cotton, sweat fabric and cotton-linen have a water-repellent coated backing, which means they can be placed outdoors. For any marks, a simple wipe with a sponge does the trick.

⚠️ If the mat is placed on a damp surface (e.g. dewy grass in the morning), check that the foam pieces haven't absorbed any moisture after use. If needed, remove the covers and leave the foam to air dry.

✔️ We also offer a Waterproof range (front and back) for easy outdoor use — just wipe clean.

How do I care for my life mat?

✔️ Cotton, organic sweat and cotton-linen covers:

Machine washable at 30°C on a standard wash and spin cycle (with similar colours)

Air dry

Can be ironed on the front side only (avoid the coated reverse to preserve the water-repellent finish).

✔️ Waterproof covers: clean with a sponge and an antiseptic product if needed.

✔️ Foam pieces protected by non-removable water-repellent mattress protectors:

For minor soiling, scrub with soap and water.

In the event of a ca(t)astrophe, the foam pieces can be machine washed at 30°C (one at a time, air dried flat).

Can it be used as a spare bed?

🛏️ Yes, absolutely! It's perfect for sleepovers or holiday nights away.

Fun fact: The founder's daughter slept for 18 months at the foot of her bed on her life mat!

Can two mats be joined together?

✔️ Yes, thanks to our XXL kit, available in the accessories section, which lets you connect two standard mats.

I'm worried the press studs on my mat might scratch my floor

No worries! If you're not using an extension, you can protect your floor with our rubber press stud covers, available in the Accessories section.

Are your collections permanent?

We offer timeless prints, but we also love creating new designs. So some collections do get discontinued after more than 12 months.

📢 To stay in the loop, follow us on our social media, where we announce the end of collections and last availability!

The Waterproof range

How do I care for my Waterproof mat or cover?

To care for your Waterproof mat, we recommend cleaning with a sponge and water, and if necessary, a suitable antiseptic product.

⚠️ Machine washing is not recommended.

📌 Precautions if exposed to water:

✔️ If your cover or mat has been exposed to a lot of water, we recommend removing the cover from your life mat and leaving the foam pieces to air dry to avoid any moisture build-up. A small amount of water can seep in at the seams.

✔️ For the Waterproof cover, also make sure it is completely dry before storing it to avoid any moisture developing.

📦 Long-term storage:

If your Waterproof cover is not in permanent use on the mat, it's best to store it rolled up to prevent creasing or mottled marks.

👉 If marks do appear, they can be reduced with a warm iron on the reverse side.

What is the difference between the zip Waterproof cover and the flap Waterproof cover?

1️⃣ The zip Waterproof cover

✔️ Made from the same material on the front (printed or plain) and the back (plain grey).

✔️ Fitted with two zips on each side to insert the foam pieces and assemble the life mat.

✔️ Ideal for minimal sponge-clean maintenance, perfect for childcare settings or intensive use.

2️⃣ The flap Waterproof cover

✔️ Works like our activity covers, with flaps that let you position it in seconds over a fabric mat.

✔️ Designed for those who like to use their mat day-to-day with a fabric cover, but want to be able to protect it quickly for a messy activity.

✔️ The back and corners are made from water-repellent coated fabric, similar to the reverse side of the fabric covers on our life mats.

Which cover should I choose?

🛑 Can't decide between the two? Here's a summary to help you choose:

✔️ You prefer minimal maintenance (sponge only) and/or you run a childcare settingGo for a Waterproof mat with zip cover.

✔️ You love the feel of fabric every day but want to protect your mat for certain activitiesChoose a mat with a cotton cover + a flap Waterproof cover.

The extension system

How does it work?

The extension attaches to the life mat using the 3 press studs fixed to the underside of the covers.

📌 Compatibility with older models

✔️ If your life mat was purchased before January 2022, your cover may not be fitted with press studs.

To make it compatible, you can purchase our DIY extension kit, available in the accessories section.

This kit lets you sew 3 press stud strips onto the reverse of your cover to make it compatible with our extension.

Can I add an extension onto an extension?

🛑 If you want to add several extensions, that's essentially the same as joining two life mats together!

✔️ In that case, you can connect them with our XXL kit (in the accessories section).

✔️ If you'd like to add multiple extensions, it's possible with the DIY kit and its 3 press stud strips to sew on. That way you can add as many extensions as you like!

Why is there a colour difference with my extension bought later?

🌞 A colour difference may appear if you buy your extension several months or years after your life mat.

💡 Why? Light, even indirect, has a natural effect on colours over time (like a mark left on a wall or a curtain exposed to sunlight).

📌 No need to worry: this difference will fade with time and use.

Flap covers

Can I buy a life mat that already comes with a flap cover (fluffy / activity…)?

No, we don't offer the life mat with a flap cover instead of the zip cover.

💡 Why?

✔️ The foam pieces, when not assembled inside a zip cover, cannot be folded or transported easily.

📌 How does it work?

1️⃣ Buy a life mat, which includes 2 (or 3) foam pieces and a zip cover of your choice.

2️⃣ Then add a flap cover, which sits easily on top thanks to its 4 flaps.

How do I position a flap cover on a king-size life mat?

📌 Flap covers, including the sensory cover, are designed to be placed on a life mat in standard format.

👉 When used with an extension:

✔️ The extension attaches to the central press stud, between the two side flaps of the cover.

⚠️ Exception: only the Moumoute cover is available in both standard and king-size.

The sensory cover

From what age is the sensory cover recommended?

👶 The sensory cover is designed to gently stimulate the development of babies aged 0 to 15 months.

I've lost the accessories for my sensory cover — what should I do?

✔️ Lost the rattle?

No worries! You can order a new one from the Accessories section of our website.

✔️ Misplaced the user guide?

Send a request to our customer care team at hello@mezameparis.com, and we'll send you a copy.

My baby seems to be losing interest in the sensory cover — what should I do?

At Mèzamé, we firmly believe in "less is more" when it comes to stimulation. Healthy development is above all built on:

✔️ The presence of parents (and siblings to spice things up a little 😉)

✔️ Age-appropriate resources, without overstimulation

✔️ A respected rhythm, because they'll have plenty of time to live in a world that moves fast!

That's why our sensory cover was designed with a team of early childhood professionals, incorporating around ten key forms of stimulation to support babies' development from 0 to 15 months.

💡 Tip: Just as it's recommended to rotate the toys and rattles available to a baby every 2 to 3 weeks, we suggest alternating time with and without the sensory cover.

🌀 Your baby will rediscover the cover with fresh eyes and new skills.

For example:

👉 At 12 weeks, they'll start to grasp the rattle.

👉 At 9 months, they'll love finding it hidden in the vichy pocket!

The Waterproof flap cover

What is the difference between the zip Waterproof cover and the flap one?

1️⃣ The zip Waterproof cover

✔️ Made from the same material on both the front (printed or plain) and the back (plain grey).

✔️ Fitted with two zips on each side to insert the foam pieces and assemble the life mat.

✔️ Ideal for minimal sponge-clean maintenance, perfect for childcare settings or intensive use.

2️⃣ The flap Waterproof cover

✔️ Designed for those who enjoy using their mat day to day with a fabric cover, but want to be able to protect it quickly for a messy activity.

✔️ You prefer minimal maintenance (sponge-clean only) and/or you run a childcare settingGo for a Waterproof mat with a zip cover.

✔️ You love the feel of fabric day to day but want to protect your mat for certain activitiesChoose a mat with a cotton cover + a Waterproof flap cover.

The fluffy cover

Why does the Fluffy cover seem too large when it arrives?

🧸 Our Fluffy cover is made from organic cotton, a delicate material that responds to its first wash.

📌 That's why it's sold loose when new.

✔️ As soon as it arrives, we recommend washing it at 30°C, then tumble drying it.

✔️ This will allow the loops to fluff up and regain all their softness.

Bedding

What material is your bedding made from?

🛏️ Our bedding is made from Oeko-Tex certified cotton jersey.

💡 Why jersey?

✔️ Jersey is a knit fabric, which makes it incredibly soft and stretchy.

✔️ As soft as your favourite T-shirt, fluid and enveloping…

✔️ And of course, it's sprinkled with sweet-dream magic for even more blissful nights! ✨

Why do your duvet covers have a button fastening?

🧵 Because it's the most practical and long-lasting solution!

✔️ Envelope closure ❌: the duvet always ends up escaping.

✔️ Zip fastening ❌: we've found it holds up less well over multiple washes in the long run.

✔️ Button fastening ✅: super practical, long-lasting, and on top of that… our buttons are custom Mèzamé – and they're absolutely gorgeous! 😍

Can I choose the pillowcase size in the bedding sets?

📌 No, the bedding sets are already packaged in our workshop in Portugal.

✔️ Baby set40x60 cm pillowcase

✔️ Child set65x65 cm pillowcase

📦 Each set comes in a lovely drawstring pouch.

💡 Need a different size?

No problem! Pillowcases are also sold individually.

The nursing pillow: the Roomate

What filling is used in your nursing pillow?

🛏️ At Mezamé, we chose a pillow-style filling made from Oeko-Tex certified polyester.

💡 Why this choice?

✔️ More comfortable than micro-beads

✔️ More durable over time

✔️ Adaptable: when new, it's plump and firm, but it gradually moulds to your preferred positions with use.

Is the cover compatible with my existing nursing pillow?

📏 Our covers are sold separately and measure approximately 170 x 30 cm.

✔️ They are compatible with most nursing pillows on the market, which typically range in size from 150 to 180 cm.

I've lost the guide that came with my nursing pillow — what should I do?
