Sofa VS Mat: the match

Propped up by a mountain of cushions, the little one watches the living room buzz with quiet curiosity. Comfortably settled, they feel proud to be part of the action — right at the grown-ups' level.

But look a little closer, and they seem a bit slumped… just like us after three back-to-back Netflix episodes (incredibly rare, obviously). Nothing to worry about. And actually, quite logical.

Why? Because nature knows best. To sit up on their own, your child needs strength, balance and — let's be honest — some serious muscle-building. And getting there is quite the adventure. On their back, then their tummy, rolling, crawling, pivoting — they try, try again, adjust… until that triumphant push up on their little arms, the prelude to sitting. They're building their own foundations, in their own time.

Until they can sit up on their own, the simplest thing is not to sit them up. Even when it's very tempting — and even with the best nursing pillow in the world propped behind them:). Sure, they love being at adult height, right in the middle of the action. But stuck in that position, it's hard for them to reach a toy, change angle, or head off on an adventure.

On the floor, it's total freedom. Welcome to the wonderful world of free movement. Tiny ones push back against gravity, discover their feet, attempt wobbly rolls. It's all this invisible work that builds a stable seated posture and, later on, walking. For this exploration to be a pleasure, you need the right kit. On a mattress that's too soft? They sink. On the tiles? It's a sliiiide. With its ideal foam density, our mat — firm yet comfortable, generous and edge-free — changes everything. It offers just enough resistance to push off, press down on hands, and straighten up. And enough softness to cushion those little tumbles. Because before finding their balance, there will inevitably be a few "crash tests". With the right surface underfoot, they bounce back quickly and go again.
The Mezamé mat wins!

Already sat them up? No need to panic. The idea isn't to forbid it, but to balance it out. Simply prioritise the floor whenever possible. It's also a lovely excuse to lie down with them and play at their level — and besides, the view from down there is actually pretty great:)
